sweet, sweet dreams

Does anyone else find sleeping weird? I mean, it's totally necessary to function, but I guess I just find it odd that everyone HAS to do it.

Hey, the name of my blog IS random thoughts. So this really isn't that far-fetched.

it's like you're from another time...

I've been told MANY times that I seem like I grew up in the wrong generation. And I wholeheartedly agree. I love the beatles, marvin gaye, wilson pickett, and buddy holly. I never listen to the radio (therefore, my "hip" music is to a minimum). I say certain phrases that people my age don't get. I love retro-looking glasses, clothes, and design elements. One of my best friends, Liz, she thinks that we are friend soul mates living in the wrong era. She has a valid point.

When we used to go to Harry's all the time at school (because I love dive-type bars that are dark, old, and made of wood), we always played the same 3 songs in the jukebox: Got to Give it Up by Marvin Gaye, Renegade by Styx, and the last one was either a beatles song or prince.

inspiration journal

I have been following some amazing blogs. Some are just pictures, some are just quotes, and some are a mixture of all of that and more. I came across this one blog where the writer has what she calls an "inspiration board". It's basically a HUGE bulletin board that has pictures, magazine clippings, ribbon, and anything that inspires her. I was really diggin that idea, so I wondered around Barnes and Noble on Saturday and found this amazing journal (purple, of course). Getting journals and notebooks makes me happy for some reason. I think it's because I love (hand) writing so much (kinda ironic since I have a blog). Anyways, I have been putting quotes in it that I live by, as well as pictures from magazines I've been saving as well as postcards and post-its that I write to myself. It makes me feel good.

Anyways, I found these amazing pictures that I saved that I look at on a daily basis, to remind myself that there are bigger problems out there, and that I am so grateful to have such a blessed life.

Oh and I'm giving up chocolate and swearing for lent, so I might be a huge bitch for 40 days.

snowed in

Let me say this straight off the bat: I like winter. I always have, and I'm always in the minority. However, even I have my limits. Freezing temperatures don't bother me, but this snow/ice bullshit is really starting to take its toll on my mental health. Being cooped up in the apartment for two days this week was the equivalent to hell for me. Cleaned my apartment, organized my closet, and baked cookies. Then the next day came, and I really started to resent this weather, and human interaction in general.

So I was thrilled to actually get to GO to work on Thursday and talk to my co workers. Then today rolls around and it's snowing like a banshee outside. One of my best friends got in last night from Houston to see her sister (her water broke and she gave birth to a beautiful girl, Margo....4 weeks early!!) and I drove on 465 for 3/4 of a mile before I had to get off. IT WAS TRAUMATIZING. Not really...I tend to exaggerate, but the roads are shit.

I could care less about the Super Bowl tomorrow, but my friend Maureen is having people over so I'll be there for the game. I'm pumped for commercials and Glee...I also took Monday off. It will be nice to enjoy the day for once.

Whenever I am in a bad mood, I listen to some of my feel good songs: such as this.

Stay warm and more importantly, stay safe.

thankful

I got home about 2 hours ago from my friend's apartment. She made spaghetti and meatballs from scratch (I boiled the water). Needless to say, I'm full. So tonight I am grateful for amazing friends that a. feed me, and b. listen to what I have to say and have thoughtful answers.

Love you, Mo!!

at the movies

I've always been a movie freak. I love watching movies, going to the movies, and talking about movies. My freakishly good memory always helps in these situations (I can't tell you how many texts I've received over the years from friends asking, "What's the name of the guy..." or "What movie was so-and-so in?")

Just got done watching The Social Network. I remember seeing a trailer for this last year (I love me some trailers) and it surprisingly looked good. A movie about facebook? It was brilliantly directed (David Fincher...Se7en, Zodiac, Fight Club to name a few of his films) and the guy that has just been cast as the new Spiderman (Andrew Garfield) totally STOLE the movie. I loved him.

I'll be in Chicago from Thursday til Sunday, and to kill some time Friday I plan on going to the movies. Gonna be a last minute decision for sure...

changes

Wow. Three months and no new blog? I need to up my game in 2011.

First things first, I have officially moved in to a new apartment! I've been here a week now, and I absolutely love it. I am still getting all settled in.

I am very excited for Christmas. Mainly having a week and a half off! I love that my job allows us to take off for the extended holiday season (makes up for not having as many holidays off...I'd take that over getting President's Day off)

I would write more, but I'm pooped, and unlike my teacher friends, I have work in the morning :)

Merry Christmas my beautiful friends!!

music that moves you

Music is an amazing thing. I personally am listening to music probably 60% of my day....either driving, showering, working, or falling asleep. Nothing is better than finding a new band or artist and sharing it with your loved ones. My wonderful friend Liz just happened to introduce me to a band a few weeks ago when I was up in Chicago called The Black Keys. And to my surprise, I find out they are the opening act for Kings of Leon next Monday! For those who don't know, I'll be heading out to Raleigh, NC on Friday to visit some old college friends for a long weekend, and will get back Tuesday night. I am beyond excited, because I find their music upbeat and unique.

I name the post "music that moves you" and the one band I come back to time and time again is Explosions in the Sky. I can't sing their praises (pun intended) any more than I already have. They are extremely different in the sense that they don't sing a single lyric. Now, for a band to create music that moves me so much with just a couple of guitars and drums is extremely impressive in my book. I own all of their albums and listen to them daily. They are relaxing, and more importantly, they make you just sit and think. It's hard to put in to words...listening to them just makes you question just about everything. Very emotional. If you do want to check out their music, I highly suggest the album "How Strange, Innocence". I want to see this band perform live more than anything, and I without a doubt will see them one day. I know that they did the score for the movie "Friday Night Lights" (not the TV show), so if they sound familiar then that's probably where you've heard them before! :)

On a complete side-note, painting bathrooms sucks. It's so small, and I found myself constantly bumping in to WET walls, got oil-based paint in my hair, and dropped paint rollers on the carpet (twice) but it was well worth it...I think??

Have a fantastic (short) week my friends...mine's even shorter :)

Air Conditioning

Don't. Ever. Take. It. For. Granted.

Lesson learned.
